Join us this Saturday March 18, 2023 to help us celebrate Nowruz, also known as Persian New Year.
For the Northern Hemisphere, March 20 is the first day of spring. But for others around the world, it’s the beginning of a new year, too. Nowruz—which means “new day”—is a holiday marking the arrival of spring and the first day of the year in Iran, whose solar calendar begins with the vernal equinox.
As with most celebrations around the world, food plays a significant role. Herb Kuku is a traditional New Years’ eve dish in Iran. The green of the herb symbolize rebirth and the eggs represent fertility of the year to come. Many of the ingredients for the fresh herb KuKu can be found at the market. You can find the recipe for herb kuku here.
We will also have a Haft-Sin, a collection of items that symbolize a different hope for the new year. This will contain several items from our vendors including sprouts from RAD Farm, vinegar from Raven’s Moon Craft Cider & Blue Moon Farm , candles from Big D’s Bees, baklava from Panos’ Greek Goodies , hyacinths from Dirty Girl Flowers and more.
Come on down between 9 AM- 1 PM at the Native Sons Hall to help us ring in Spring and a New Year!
Sal e No Mobarak” (Happy New Year)!
